What you can expect on our call
Below is a list of questions we may walk through together on the first call. Don’t worry if you don’t have the answers! We’ll help you every step of the way.
Determining feasibility for creating a new rental
If you wish to create an ADU, do you know how many bedrooms your septic system is sized for?
If you wish to create a JADU, does the room have an existing separate entrance and/or bathroom?
What level of privacy or communal spaces are desired?
Don’t know if an ADU or JADU or both are possible? That’s okay, we can send an expert out to assess your best options.
Will you need financing for the project? Do you have some funds to invest?
What level of rental income do you need?
Determining if an existing rental is ready for tenants
Is the space empty? Furnished?
Will you consider pets?
Is sound attenuation of concern?
Is the kitchen adequate?
What level of privacy or communal spaces are desired?
Will utilities be included?
Is washer/dryer access included?
Do you need help with preparing a rental agreement?
What can I expect after the consultation?
If you’re ready to move forward after our first call, we’ll first schedule a site visit (at no cost!) where an architect will evaluate your best options for creating a rental space. Depending on the approach we take, we’ll then help you with permits, loans, and/or the construction process.
Once your space is ready to rent, we’ll then work with you on reviewing potential tenants, drafting a rental agreement, and start receiving rental income! We’ll continue to check in with you periodically and will verify annually that you are stilling renting affordably according to program terms.
